Dean's Message >>
Welcome,
prospective students and parents, to St. Bernard’s Catholic
School.
We are pleased to offer a challenging, top-level
college-preparatory, pre-K through 12 curriculum with minimum
high school graduation standards meeting entrance requirements
for The University of California. We offer in-house Advanced
Placement (AP) courses in U.S. History, English Literature,
English Language, Macroeconomics, Spanish Language, Spanish
Literature, Biology, Calculus AB, and Calculus BC, Physics,
Statistics, Latin IV, and Honors California/Humboldt County
History. We are also
pleased to offer a full compliment of Visual and Performing Arts
courses, including Music Appreciation, Dramatic Analysis,
Acting, Graphic Design, Film Appreciation, Video Production, Ceramics
& Ceramics II, Art
Foundations, and—new this year—Choir.
Students here at SBCS are motivated, well-rounded individuals
who are encouraged, at all turns, to succeed, not only in
academics, but in a quest to become upstanding members of a
community that strives for excellence in all aspects of life.
Our small class sizes (currently averaging 14.1 for pre-K-8;
11.2 for 9-12) afford students frequent contact with, and more
personalized instruction from, our dedicated, specialized
faculty, ensuring greater success in college acceptance and
attendance. Saint Bernard’s Elementary students applying to our
Junior High, as well as SB Junior High students applying to our
High School, score, on average, higher on our placement exams
than those entering from other schools. The high school
graduating class of 2007 boasted, for the third year in a row, a
100% college attendance rate, with an impressive number accepted
to leading four-year colleges and universities, including Lehigh
University, University of San Diego, University of Southern
California, University of California, Davis, and Willamette
University. This year’s ambitious, competitive class promises
great prosperity, as well, with students already showing
interest in top universities such as The University of
California, Los Angeles, The University of California, San
Diego, Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, and The University of the
Pacific.
If I can be of any assistance at all, please do not hesitate to
telephone my office (707-443-2735 ext.116) or to e-mail me (obrienm@saintbernards.us)
with your inquiries. I am blessed to have been a teacher, class
advisor, and coach at St. Bernard’s Catholic for the past eleven
years, and I look forward to being a continued part of our
growth and excellence for many years to come.
Sincerely,
Michael O'Brien
