First
began teaching with Archbishop Riordan High School in San Francisco, CA., then
moved on to teach integrated English / History at Pacific Dunes High School in
Manila, CA. Currently teaches British Literature/Creative Writing, AP Literature
and Composition, and Film Appreciation. He has coached Track and Field for the
high school since 1998, as well. Prior to teaching at St. bernard’s, Mr. O’Brien
has also worked for the California Department of Fish and Game as a seasonal
aid, at United Express Airlines as an aircraft fueler, at Lucky Supermarkets as
a courtesy clerk, and at the Broadway Cinema as a manager. Mr. O’Brien says that
his years at St. Bernard’s have been, without a doubt, the best of his
professional life, that they have allowed him to pursue a lifelong passion for
literary analysis while working with students. He has learned the true meanings
of community and vocation. Though he feels his position at St. Bernard’s is
extremely rewarding, the greatest satisfaction and happiness in his life comes
from the family with whom he professes that he is each day, blessed: his wife of
fourteen years, Beth, his five-year-old twins, Claire and Patrick, and his
two-year-old daughter, Kaleigh Rose. In his spare time, Mr. O’Brien enjoys
reading (Joyce and Faulkner, in particular), writing, hiking, diving, hunting,
and looking out his living room window at the vast Pacific.
