St. Bernard’s Catholic School is an independent
catholic private school. It is the only private Pre-K thru 12th
Grade school in California’s Northwest Coastal area. The school is
not sponsored under the Diocese school program; but is supported by
the passion and generosity of numerous individuals and
businesses—proof of the high value the school is to our community.
The school’s Board, Administration, and Faculty are committed to
applying our best strengths proactively to keep the school advancing
in its mission. These strengths are:
1. The school is solely dependent on the contributions of
time, talent, and money of our people and community (those who have
a stake and investment in the school’s success—our “stakeholders”).
2. The school is a private
business and is not funded by public funds, utilizing best
business practices to ensure the success of the school.
3. Our “stakeholders” – the school’s directors,
administrators, employees, parents, alumni, friends, donors,
and students – are all partners in this business. We honor
each other’s roles and interests, and insist that the
leaders of these groups communicate, coordinate, and support
each other to reach our goals.
4. We are still first and foremost a family. We
practice this, and do every thing we can to make sure we all
contribute to and enjoy the school’s activities, events, and
successes.
The school’s Board of Directors is actively
involved in the planning for the future of the school to make sure
it will thrive and succeed for the long term. We are completing
one-year, three-year, and six-year action plans to carry out the
strategic plan that was developed by the Board of Directors; and we
will be starting on a master plan to upgrade the school’s buildings
and grounds.
The foundation for the school’s success was laid by our
predecessors. That was their gift to us. The way to return that gift
is to pass it on. We will continue to work hard to pass the gift on
to future parents and students who will fill our shoes.
Respectfully,
Brian Papstein, Chair
