Campus Ministry:

Campus Ministry at St. Bernard's Catholic School is essential to build a strong, living, faith community and enhance the mission of our Catholic Faith by:

  • Proclaiming and communicating the Gospel message.
  • Providing opportunities for members of the community to deepen their understanding of Jesus and His message.
  • Calling on members of the community to share their gifts and talents to minister to others.
  • By raising the awareness of, and encouraging involvement in, solutions to contemporary social and moral problems.
  • Complementing the goals and outcomes of the Theology Department.

Services An all-school Mass is celebrated at least once monthly (Click Here for Mass Schedule).  Masses are also celebrated on Holy Days of Obligation and Feast Days.  Parents are welcome to attend all the school liturgical services. These events are an integral part of the curriculum of St. Bernard's High School and all students and staff are required to be present. All classes will begin with prayer; personal and family intentions are welcome to be included in these prayer times.

Each Friday the elementary school students visit St. Joseph's Chapel for Rosary and continued devotion to the Blessed Mother Mary.

Chapel  Located on the school campus is St. Joseph' Chapel - built in 1912 by the sisters of St. Joseph for the students of the Nazareth Academy which later became today's St. Bernard's Catholic school.

The Christian Service Project Christian Service is an important component of the St. Bernard’s Catholic School Religious Education curriculum because it engages students in service motivated by Jesus Himself, who calls us to serve others as he did. It is a reaching out to people who have a clear and immediate need: the sick, the shut-in, the elderly, the young, the poor, the hungry, the homeless, and the persecuted.

Twenty-Five (25) hours of service are required each year. Transfer students will have this requirement pro-rated, based on time of transfer. Students must have a service contract signed by an agency representative or other designated on-site supervisor and give the agency representative a service hour log. Service must be approved before hours can be logged for credit. The Religious Education teacher will be responsible for administering the student’s service. Twelve and one-half hours of service at the end of each semester will compromise 10%of the students’ religious education grade. Less than 12.5 hours will decrease the students grade; with zero hours resulting in the religious education grade declining by 10%. For instance a student earning 90% in a class, before final exams, having done 12.5 hours of service that semester will maintain that grade. A student having done zero hours of service in that semester will receive an 80% before final exams.

Service opportunities are available through either the Campus Ministry Department or the students Religious Education teacher.

Three forms have been designed to keep everyone on track. Each has a due date attached to it. They are:

Form #1 Project Approval Form. Must be turned in to Religious Education teacher by the first Friday in October. The earlier the better. This must be in before hours served can be counted toward credit.

Form #2 Supervisor Evaluation Form. Must be turned in to Religious Education teacher by the Friday of Dead Week, before finals week at the end of each semester; confirming the student has done the declared hours of service.

Form #3 Student Evaluations. Must be turned in to Religious Education teacher by the Tuesday of final’s week at the end of each semester.

In addition, senior students will have prepared a mixed media presentation for a panel of parents, students and teachers reflecting on their terms of service during their high school career, which will be done toward the end of the second semester and will be considered their final project for religious education class -- worth 20% of their grade.
